Baekyoung Nonhyeon Center (2024 Beautiful Architecture Award)

The subdued Galaxy Black tone is expressed through a modern, clean base form. The upper tower is visually separated from the podium to offset the sense of heaviness and assumes a symbolic, object-like form. Vertical decorative louvers lend a progressive, upward-soaring impression and allow varied expressions depending on viewing angle. The ceramic panels on the upper floors share a similar color tone with the base stone but, thanks to different surface textures, produce varying impressions depending on the light. Given the relatively large site for a residential zone, the building's volume is divided into two: the boulevard-facing side serves as a landmark tower near Hakdong-ro, while the rear neighborhood commercial building is scaled to respect the back street's sense of openness. Planned as both a smart and eco-friendly building, Baekyoung Nonhyeon Center aspires to become a cultural and social hub for the Hakdong-ro area through engagement with its surroundings.
