Introduction

A representative temple of Zen Buddhism in Korea. It was founded under the name of ‘Gyeonseongsa Temple’ during the reign of King Wonseong of Silla. In the 17th year of King Myeongjong's reign in the Joseon Dynasty, it was moved to its current location under the leadership of Queen Munjeong and was given its current name. Afterwards, it suffered numerous losses during the Japanese Invasion of Korea, the Manchu War, and the Korean War, but as a result of repeated repairs and reconstruction, it has come to stand tall as Gangnam's representative tourist destination. It has a wealth of cultural assets as well as a long history. The grounds include Daeungjeon, Beopwangnu, Arctic Bojeon, and Seondang. Regardless of religion, Bongeunsa Temple's doors are wide open to ordinary citizens who need a quiet walk and meditation.
