Introduction

Designated Seoul Tangible Cultural Heritage No. 48, the Jeonju Yi Clan Gwangpyeong Grand Prince Branch Tomb Complex sits on the northeastern foothills of Daemosan Mountain, spanning a total area of 413,300 square meters. The tomb of Grand Prince Gwangpyeong — King Sejong's fifth son — and his wife Lady Shin occupies the center, surrounded by over 700 graves including that of his only son, Prince Yeongsun, and Grand Prince Muan and his wife. Among royal descendant tomb complexes near Seoul, this one boasts the best-preserved original form. From Grand Prince Gwangpyeong's tomb, a sweeping panoramic view of the Palace Village unfolds. Visiting all the major tombs would take at least half a day; a lighter walking route through the ceremonial hall and shrine, circling back via Grand Prince Muan's tomb, is recommended.
