Korean War Veterans Memorial
Honoring the Fighting Spirit of Patriotism
Introduction

Erected in December 2020, this memorial bears the names of 2,193 Gangnam-gu Korean War veterans who gave their lives defending the nation. Located in front of the main gate of the Capital Technical High School, it documents historical records from the outbreak of war on June 25, 1950 through the armistice on July 27, 1953, including photographs of the ROK Army 1st Division's Han River crossing operation to recapture Seoul. The work is by sculptor Wang Gwang-hyeon, famous for 'Eternal Atonement' installed at the Korea Native Plant Garden — its form depicts the Taegeukgi (Korean flag) embracing Gangnam's fallen heroes.
