About

Originally established in April 1955 in Unni-dong, Jongno-gu, as the Gugak Training Center attached to the National Gugak Center, this is Korea's oldest gugak (traditional music) educational institution. Majors include gayageum, geomungo, daegeum, haegeum, piri, and ajaeng. Universally recognized as the top institution in the gugak world, it relocated to its current site in 1992. Every October, the 'Gaepogol Harmony Festival' is held, beginning with a chwita-dae (traditional military band) march from the school through Gaepo 4-dong, followed by diverse performances including jeongak ensemble, vocal music, and gugak orchestra.
